APEC University APEC
University Uses the Oxford Tutorial Learning Method
Oxford University is the oldest English language, and most
prestigious university in the world, and dates from 1096.
Oxford University’s old students include 5 kings, 40 Nobel
Prize winners, 25 British Prime Ministers, 9 current holders
of the Order of Merit, plus 3 Saints, 85 Archbishops and 18
Cardinals.
At APEC, like Oxford, other British, Australian and New Zealand
Universities students are empowered and encouraged to do more
research through student-centred learning,
and to submit their work findings as assignments. They are
taught to take responsibility, think critically, and ponder
the question and research program, then to communicate their
thoughts in understandable English, clearly and in writing.
British universities are not members
of an association of universities. They are independent
institutions. As they do not have an association
of schools and universities attempting to control the curricula
and teaching methods they tend to offer more innovative
programs than their American counterpart universities.
APEC’s program characteristics are different to American
universities. These differences include: -
- Student-centred-learning is emphasised more than
teaching.
- A student’s learning is done through research and writing
instead of study for examination.
- APEC is highly decentralised and individual.
- The student is treated as person.
- Professors, and tutors are approachable.
- Degree programs are more specialised.
APEC, like Oxford University, offers research degrees at
the Master, and Doctoral levels and these degrees can be awarded
entirely on the basis of a student's research
projects, with no exam required. Student-centred-learning
programs do not force students to study what they already
know or do not need to know. Rather the program allows
the student to choose an area of research that is relevant
to their work, or company.
APEC programs are based on this model
of educational relevance and excellence.
APEC does not require GMAT, GRE, IELTS or TOEFL
exams, or prior studies in business, to be enrolled, and accepts
students without a Bachelor's degree. APEC believes
that anyone who has the potential to do graduate business
studies should have the opportunity to do so.
The Oxford tutorial learning method has been used successfully
for over 500 years. It’s an accurate, personally oriented
teaching and learning methodology. An Oxford student has an
academic advisor. An APEC student has a Program Supervisor,
or Professor.
APEC, emphasises the student learning to think critically,
through conduct of his / her research and writing.
The student is responsible to plan and manage their time to
ensure the necessary work gets done and assignments are submitted
on time.
The Oxford student meets generally for an hour a week with
their tutor. Lectures do not have to be attended. At APEC
you meet with your supervisor, professor online, or by phone,
as needed. Thereby, providing you with flexibility, support,
and ongoing discussion and interaction with your supervising
professor.
APEC students, like those in the Oxford system learn to present,
consider, accept constructive advice, and to defend their
theories and opinions. Undertaking student-centred-learning
on topics, and writing assignment papers hones their thinking,
writing and presentation skills. Students are given individual
attention. All APEC students enjoy the benefits of our Oxford's
tutorial learning methods.
- APEC’s Oxford tutorial learning system supports student
development and skills such as: -
- Personal organisation.
- Time management - the ability to work productively while
under pressure.
- Thinking – logically and clearly.
- Debate – the ability to present a reasoned argument.
- Criticism – see objectively by not responding
to subjective red herrings (side tracks).
- Truth - the ability to assimilate the truth and respond
to it.
- Praise – appreciate the truth in other points
of view.
- English Writing – convey arguments – conclusions and
recommendations in easy to understand English.
The APEC, Oxford tutorial, learning system supports
each student to work independently with a professor as a facilitator
and guide. It is recognised that the tutorial system is the
best, fastest, and the best value-for-money way to acquire
the skills to see students critically evaluate research material,
organise thoughts, and be able to present them in a winning
manner in English.
APEC uses the Oxford tutorial learning system
because it is the recognised world leader
in student-centred-learning.
